Definition of “Carry” in League of Legends?

A carry is a champion or player that becomes a primary source of damage and teamfight impact by securing resources and scaling strongly throughout the game. Carries often rely on items, levels, and good positioning to maximize their output, especially during the mid and late stages where they contribute most of their team’s DPS. When a carry is ahead, they can heavily influence objective control and sweep teamfights through consistent damage or high burst potential.

The term can also be used more informally to describe a player who dominated a match and led their team to victory through superior mechanics, decision making, or resource management. Champions classified as ADC / AD Carry are the most well known form of carries, but mid lane mages, assassins, and even some bruisers can take on the carry role depending on team composition. A protected and well farmed carry often becomes the focal point of both teams during critical moments.
